Happy Memorial Day! Our Weekend in D.C.

I love Washington, D.C. almost any time of year, but it really is something to be there for Memorial Day weekend. We started out our sightseeing weekend with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery. I had no idea that they put a flag on every plot/tombstone Memorial Day weekend only.

A family photo as well....at Arlington, near JFK's grave site.

The changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown is always a powerful experience. This is the first time the kids got to see it.

The American History (Smithsonian) Museum was closed, but they did have a small exhibit at the Air & Space Museum. Greg poses in front of Kermit the Frog. Bick poses in front of Archie Bunker's chair and the "Puffy Shirt" from Seinfeld. Emily poses in front of the Scarecrow's costume and the ruby red slippers from the Wizard of Oz.

Mom takes a break from the sun (Can we say SUNSCREEN, Mom? I know you taught me better than that!) at the Air & Space Museum.

All the bikers (over 80,000 actually) came out to support the veterans in a great parade! Greg high-fives one of the bikers. The Word War II Memorial - one of my favorite memorials, partly because of the design, but also because my Gammy, Papa, and Grandfather all served their country during WWII.

The White House...hmmmm...I think I could be quite cozy there! LOL

Future President? I could just imagine the first laws he would try to get passed....desserts with every meal, no homework EVER, video games in every household, and sports jerseys as required uniforms at school!
~In memory of all those who gave their lives for our great country and for those who put their lives on the line to protect the freedom that we are all so fortunate to have...we will be forever grateful!~
